My heart oscillates with the bumps in the road
And stretches out with the distance
Creating a sanguine horizon
Tinting my vision
Thumping me between day and dusk
You served me a platter of smiles and I took them as truth
Consuming them with tentative hesitation
Sincerely teasing out the taste
Your silence told me everything your words would not
Your eyes told me everything your silence would not
Your mouth told me everything your eyes would not
I was correct in my placement of trust
We had to depart before I could get it back
I wonder if you’ve noticed it
Amongst the luggage in your backseat
I wonder if I’ll find the same of you in mine
I’ll return to you if I do
I’ll forget to return anything else
We’ve both abused the freeway median at least nine times
I’ll do so once more
I’ll find my heart in the fields of Novato
Waiting for me to pick it up
