Your Eyes are Sonnets by Myah Mays

Eyes are the windows of the soul
They contain poetry, hymns, and
Sonnets that your soul screams
And sings. My eyes dance to the
Beat of the hymns my ancestors
Sing. You are you and I am me.
My lips drenched in rosehip
Glistens with love and truth.

My hair defies gravity
It grows towards
The Sun that kisses my
Bronze skin
Oh, how it loves me so
I am you, You are me
I walk with a glide
That my hips don’t hide,
And I don’t abide by imaginary
Lines. My entire Being is a statement
Without speaking
I love myself
Even though I’ve been told to be someone
Else. I’ve been told not to love myself
But the love I have given myself
Instead of hate is long overdue.
People may stop and stare
But I can’t see from the glare
That The Light within me is casting,
It’s bright. I’ll tear down any negativity
With all my Might, I’ll be alright,
It’s only a matter of Time.
People will look up at The Sky
And say,
“Wow, look at Her now.”
