The Urn of Atlantis by Philip Carrigan
Read by Conner Arnold
An ocean swims into my room
Coloring blue this placid gloom.
Riding a wave inside a jar
It gushes from a ceramic flume.
A salty scent blown from seas far
Preceded depths of a sea-floor scar.
Seaweed, serpents, fish, and water
Drift like a dream of Myanmar.
Beneath my bed hides an otter
Who hopes to avoid its own slaughter.
And floating in the corner: its doom;
A shark to guard the royal daughter.
She choked on plastic or toxic fume
Or the hook of her beloved groom.
It’s putrid water, and from that tomb
An ocean swims into my room.
