Beans by Federico Guzman
Read by Conner Arnold
Poetry is like
beans.
It takes time
and is best prepared after
being left to soak overnight.
Let it simmer
at a low heat
for hours.
Wait until they’re plump
and can be squashed between your fingers.
Be careful.
You need enough water
and patience.
If not you’ll burn them
And leave your whole kitchen
Smelling like seared mildew.
Poetry is like
beans.
Let it soak and be patient.
Otherwise you’ll burn the beans.
